GUOXCCI [GU-O-chee]
This site is a “what if” AI dream team mash up of MIT's Mediated Matter Lab professor, Neri Oxman, and Gucci's Creative Director, Alessandro Michele, as if they were presenting the ultimate collaboration in fashion and what could be a final look of zero-waste product development.
Oxman has challenged the world to redesign design through her material ecology approach and to grow everything versus mass assembly. She states, "The most beautiful products or the most elegant or seductive products, in her mind, are those that tell a story of a process." Example: If you can grow a tree in the shape of a tree, why can't you grow it into the shape of a table, attempting to eliminate assembly and establish zero waste in the process or at least trying? And Alessandro is arguably heading up one of the world's most iconic and sought-after fashion lines; Gucci. He feels that "there is a big mistake made by many in telling the story of men and women as a separate or isolated element from nature. We are nature, and nature is us." Together, they could produce something both seductive and sustainable.
These images revolve around the future of what these two designers could do if they teamed up. It could set a precedent for every other product designer in the world. Because at some point, we will be able to manufacture anything, but the material we choose and how we produce them will be the next pioneering state.
